About me

Hi, I’m Dylan.

I’m interested in how small visual decisions add up to a big user experience. This project started as a mid-term analysis of Yahoo and turned into a full redesign case study.

Why I chose Yahoo

Yahoo is a classic portal site with news, weather, sports, email, and more competing for attention. That makes it a perfect example of what happens when there are too many priorities on one screen.

In my original critique I focused on clutter, lack of direction, bland coloring, and a generally outdated look that reminds me of early 2000s web design.

Skills I practiced

  • Evaluating visual hierarchy and layout.
  • Breaking design problems into smaller pieces.
  • Writing clear explanations for design decisions.
  • Building a responsive multi-page website with HTML and CSS.

What improvement means here

“Improvement” doesn’t just mean fewer elements. It means:

  • More focus on what actually matters to the user.
  • Better balance between text, images, and white space.
  • Consistent colors and type that feel intentional.
