Project overview

What’s wrong with the current Yahoo homepage?

In my mid-term assignment I identified several patterns that make Yahoo’s homepage overwhelming and hard to use. This page summarizes those findings and sets the stage for the redesign.

Key issues at a glance

  • Clutter on the sides of the page that distracts from the main content.
  • No obvious starting point or primary action for the user.
  • Bland background with very little contrast or visual interest.
  • Too many sections packed into a single view.

User impact

The result is an experience where “so much is happening that nothing is being seen.” Users have to work harder to decide what to click, and they may miss important headlines or features entirely.

This is especially dangerous for a news-driven portal that depends on users quickly scanning and engaging with content.

How this site is organized

The rest of this site breaks the problems into focused pages:

  • Clutter and lack of direction.
  • Color, layout, and balance.
  • Options, boxes, fonts, and image overload.
  • Logo, style, and overall modern look.

Each page ends with a short “improvement idea” that feeds into the final redesign concept.
